Nose Rings and Other Ways To Jerk You Around

Have ya seen that ol' Al "My home uses 20 times the energy of your home" Gore is trying to resurrect his, uhm, Climate Change creds?  Yep, he's got a new website called Climate Reality (ClimateRealityProject dot org - I won't give him a direct link) where he's pimping "24 Hours of Reality".

He's got a cutsie video that explains the whole thing.  The phrase, "Global Warming" isn't even whispered.  Climate Change is the spin nowadays.

While he doesn't come straight out and say that climate change is man-made - at least not in the video - he bashes the usual suspects.  Big Oil and Big Coal.

The message is unmistakable.

CO2 is bad.  Oil and coal produce it.  They have lots of money.  We need YOU to do something about it.

After his big bash in September, you can bet we're going to hear about how we need to get the carbon tax back up and running.  Gotta save the planet, dontcha know?

I wonder how much ol' Al will make on THIS little venture.  He's done quite well in the past...

The tug on the nose ring is almost imperceptible.

Have you seen the mess going on in the little Arizona town of Quartzsite?  Holy crap.

Take a look at this article ('Nazi' police 'kidnap' woman at town hall), and watch the accompanying video (h/t Remus and the Woodpile Report).

Short version:  A woman is arrested for speaking during a city council meeting.  During the Public Comment period.  While she had been granted the floor.

But wait, there's more!  After this video went viral, the city has declared a State of Emergency (WTF?).  The police chief has been granted emergency powers and has become the de facto mayor.  The real ELECTED mayor was the dissenting voice when the woman in the video was arrested.
The far western Arizona town of Quartzsite was in disarray Monday after the town council ousted the mayor from power and declared a state of emergency, all over an online video that shows a woman being arrested.

Mayor Ed Foster told The Associated Press on Monday that the town council held a last-minute meeting that was closed to the public Sunday night, declaring a state of emergency in the 3,600-person town just east of the California city of Blythe.

The council's declaration put police Chief Jeff Gilbert in charge, making Foster the "deputy chief executive of nothing right now," he said. It also allows the five-member council to meet without public notice and suspend all public comment at the meetings until they declare the state of emergency over.
Not surprisingly, it looks to all be about money.  Dirty money.  The mayor has been screaming about corruption of the city officials, has asked for the city books to be audited, and has been rebuffed at every turn.  Pleas to state and federal agencies, up til now, have gone unanswered.

Youtube and the Internet are wonderful things.  I wonder if this video would be allowed if the Fairness Doctrine were in place.

We gotta get them damned "Internets" under control.  How's a corrupt politician supposed to make a living if all his tricks are unearthed?

Top 'o the mornin' to ya!  Your debt is now junk-ified!

Moody's rating service dropped Ireland's sovereign debt down to "junk" status.  Ouch.

American stocks took a beating, the dollar advanced, but surprisingly, gold advanced as well.   Usually, if the dollar goes up, gold and silver go down.

Buried in the Irish story was this...
Stocks advanced after the Federal Reserve released the minutes of last month’s meeting, as the report said policymakers continued to debate whether additional stimulus will be needed if the outlook for economic growth remains weak.

“The market rallied on the news that the Fed is certainly not ruling out further stimulus to further inflate the economy,” said Burt White, who helps oversee $330 billion as chief investment officer at LPL Financial Corp. in Boston. “We think it’s probably more hope than reality,” he said. “The backdrop is still difficult with the mess in Europe and a bumpy start to the earnings season with Alcoa.”

The rally fizzled late in the day as Ireland’s credit rating was cut to non-investment grade by Moody’s, joining Portugal and Greece to become the third euro-area country to be lowered to junk.
Hmmm.  Let's see.  If the Fed is going to provide more "stimulus", how might they do that?  Well, they could print up more money and call it QE3, though they probably need something snazzier - something with some POP!  While that would hurt the dollar, it would be glorious for gold and silver.

Hey!  Maybe that's why gold jumped so much...

A bit of a follow-up to last Friday's post - particularly the part about Obama raping and pillaging the Fourteenth Amendment as justification for unilaterally raising the Debt Limit.

From National Review Online
Article I, Section 8 — the same part of the Constitution that gives Congress the power to tax, appropriate, and “regulate commerce . . . among the states” (long the Left’s justification for any regulation of activity, or in the case of Obamacare, the inactivity of not buying health insurance) — also explicitly states: “The Congress shall have power to . . . borrow money on the credit of the United States.”

The 14th Amendment doesn’t affect this power one bit. It applies only to debt “authorized by law,” and as Catholic University Law School distinguished scholar John S. Baker wrote recently in NRO, “Only Congress — not the president — makes law.”
Read the whole article, it's really quite good.  It goes into past SCOTUS cases that support the position that the president must pay the debt, but only Congress can increase the debt.

Still, if the debt limit isn't raised, I'm guessing Barry & Company will pull some unconstitutional rabbit out of their hat to get their money.

Pay attention, folks.  It's getting hairy in DC.  Things don't usually go so well for us stupid, common serfs when our superior, enlightened leaders start getting nervous...

At this late date , to still deny climate change with the undeniable data in place .Clearly illuminates your lack of responsibility , and ignorance .Henceforth your blog is deleted from my favs . Good day sir.

Anon, I was just going to tell you not to let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, but I'm going to use this as a "teachable moment".

These guys take all of these "undeniable" studies and tear them to shreds. The one I listed is just the most recent. The site is full of them.

Oh, and take that ring out of your nose. Be led by the facts, not the hype.

I assume Anon is referring to the mountains of falsified data and deliberately skewed statistics that were recently revealed when the Climate Research Institute was hacked.

I guess he/she just doesn't like inconvenient facts challenging their paradigm!

When the hockey stick was proven to be a total fraud and then later the massive release of emails showing the extent and intent of other fraud in the AGW community the scam was exposed. This has been about money and power. More money and grants for "scientists" to study the problem and more tax and fines for governments and politicians and more power for the one worlders in the UN.
Sure, global warming is real. It began after the mini ice age ended and just like the one before, the Medival warming period in the 11th century, it is a beniegn warming trend that allows humans and animals to flourish. Sooner or later this current naturally occurring cyclical global warming will end and the next global cooling will begin. Global coolings are very hard on all human and animal populations and the results will not be pretty. However it won't be caused by SUVs, coal, oil or Al Gore. It is just the natural cycles the earth goes through, nothing more.

Ditto Anonymous#2...

Yes there is climate change. There may even be global warming. The question is whether either is influenced by human activity, and whether anything we do - or don't do - will make any difference.

By the way...in light of your government taking care of you, and making sure that you aren't exposed to too many watts, the standard T12 light bulbs are required to be phased out of production in June/July of 2012.

A T12 fluorescent light bulb is one that has a diameter of 1.5 inches. They are being replaced by T8s, which are tubes that are 1 inch diameter. T5s are also available (5/8 of an inch in diameter).

The problem is that you can't simply replace the bulbs - you have to replace the ballasts as well - or buy a new fixture (wiring is different if you choose to replace the ballasts yourself. Be sure to follow the diagrams). Just as a side note, the "inefficient" magnetic ballasts we are no longer permitted to use generally lasted for 15 to 20 years or more. The new electronic ballasts are - or seem to be - good for 5-10 years.

Also as another side note, the T8s and T5s are more expensive than T12s, and so are the ballasts, although if you have a 4 lamp fixture, a T12 fixture requires 2 ballasts, and a T8 fixture can run with just one.

I know...more than you needed to know...! I repeat though - this is not an industry decision, it's federally mandated. All kinds of light bulbs are going to go away.

Oops...comment at 10:02 was mine...I didn't mean to join the ranks of Anonymous...just forgot to fill in all of the blanks...

LOL, this is getting to be funny- someone who actually still believes we can change the climate by exhaling farts. Oops, sorry- by cows farting exhales. Wait,dangit- don't things green need the exhaled gas for photosynthesis? So if we stop producing carbon dioxide, all the green goes away. Maybe we should do that- it just might get rid of the green weenies, too. Nah, I'd rather they do as they tell us and cut their own throats to reduce the global population. That one act alone would bring us in eco-balance.
Darnit, now I got side-tracked off topic.
Weren't we talking about the debt ceiling? Well, good old little black jesus is desiring CONgress to make him responsible for decisions about the debt ceiling and they retain veto power. Uh-huh. Like those CONS would veto anything he does.
As for the fluorescent bulbs... if anonymouse would read the label he'd be amazed at what he's required to do if one of them breaks in his house. But then, he'd have to be a responsible person and we know he isn't. Or wouldn't be.
EIther way, it's goveernment intrusion into our lives, manipulating and controlling what we are allowed to purchase. 1984, anyone?

Guns, don't be so mean. Introducing facts and the actual words of the GW scammers just makes the wild dream so, well, undreamy.

Anon 7:37, I think the GW is probably real. The only reason I qualify my agreement is because it's the US government and the UN that publish most of the "official" temperature data. It's in both of their best interest (can you say 'taxes'?) for the numbers to be going up.

I don't believe the inflation numbers for the same reason - it's in the gov's best interest for the official numbers to be low.

That being said, just what I can see with my own two eyes indicates temps to be warming. But to "undeniably" attribute the rise to humans is just plain stupid.

Sue, you seem to be saying that the government mandated products are not as good as those that the free market has provided us with for the past decades.

Heresy!

Yeah, and the fact that if you drop one of these bulbs - filled with mercury - you have to call a toxic waste company to come clean it up. Unreal.

Shy, Big Barry LOVES Big Brother. We're all too stupid to know what's good for us. Barry will take care of it all. All it takes is us digging our debt hole a little bit deeper. No problemo.

Suburban, good point. Copper really is going through the roof. Hey! Maybe we could fashion the new ones out of carbon - the carbon we're pumping into the atmosphere. Like ethanol for cars, I'm sure it would only be more expensive and less effective, but at least it would be 'green'...

"Good" or "Better" are always relative terms. The reason the
new ones are "better" is because they use less energy. It's the ballasts that use less energy - the T8 four footer bulbs are only two watts less than the T12 four footers. (as a result of the '93 EPACT, which mandated a reduction of wattage for F40T12s - 40 watts - to F34T12s - 34 watts). Pretty big disruption for 2 watts, imo. The ballasts use about a third less energy, but to be honest, I don't know the numbers for those.

When you read articles like the one below, however, it makes me wonder just how much we're actually saving.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/07/the_real_cost_of_solar_energy.html

The last GE incandescent manufacturing plant in the US closed down last fall - but Texas has passed a law permitting incandescents manufactured in Texas to be sold in Texas. It'll be interesting to see how _that_ goes...!
