H...Adam, your last comment just hit close to home. Had my intro pistol class yesterday. One of the people taking the class has a TRO out against a psycho husband who is threatening her. A friend lent her a gun, which she brought to class to learn how to shoot.

I believe she had broken virtually every CA law on the possession and transportation of a gun! Why? A friend had told her "the law". I squared her up on the law, and sent her some CA-DOJ links for further clarification.

She only had to make a couple small tweaks to how she was possessing/transporting the gun, and she was fully legal. If she had been pulled over on the way to the class, she would have been in a world of hurt, with a couple of things being "mandatory minimums" and out of the hands of a friendly judge or prosecutor.

RE: Loud verbal commands - that's one of the key points I stress in my advanced class. Loudly and forcefully yell that you have a gun and will use it to defend yourself. In addition to drawing attention and helping with the justification, the "bad guy" in your home may just be your drunk kid or spouse coming home late at night who was trying to sneak back in.Chief Instructorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13604561415860237705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8964596045360803212.post-76882084119119724332014-05-03T14:28:49.827-07:002014-05-03T14:28:49.827-07:00Excellent comments. However, many people do one of the things above you mention, which can switch them from a justifiable shoot to an unjustified crime.

Loud verbal commands are also good, especially if there are witnesses. They aren't always necessary, but they can help.

I would highly recommend taking classes on justifiable shooting as well as any legal training you can take on it. Know your local laws and the laws of any other jurisdiction you travel and carry in. Don't take anyone's word that you haven't verified with the written law and case law.Adamnoreply@blogger.com
